MEDIA STUDIES

Key Stage 4

In Media Studies, students study the world around them and learn how to decode music, social networking, websites, films and adverts and learn what messages they are trying to communicate. Students will be afforded an insight into the film and music industry, the inner workings of the press and realise the power of the media in our modern society. Over the duration of the course pupils must complete three assignments which contribute to 60% of their overall GCSE grade. During these assignments, pupils will not only analyse existing magazines, film trailers and music videos but must also shoot and produce their own usiof the art equipment. Media Studies facilitates the development of analytical skills alongside creativity and is a great opportunity for students to evaluate the effect the media has on society today.
