Students follow a combined course of literature and language to prepare them for the new AQA GCSEs. Students encounter a range of pre 19th century and modern texts including Beowulf and Holes and are expected to use a wide range of creative and analytical skills. Students also develop their public speaking skills through lots of different platforms including one of Nelson Mandela’s speeches. The units followed in year 7 include: Beowulf, Introduction to Poetry, Introduction to Shakespeare, 19th Century openings, Holes and non- fiction.
Students in year 8 continue their AQA Key Stage 3 programme but broaden their exposure to challenging texts and analytical writing. The units in year 8 include: A Christmas Carol, Ballads, Macbeth, Curious Incident of the Dog in the night-time, Monologues and Writing to inform
