Student Coronavirus Testing

When school reopens, in line with government guidance, we will test all students 3 times over the first 2 weeks, followed by routine twice weekly testing. The tests are carried out by the student and involve swabbing their nose with a sterile swab before it is put into a solution and the solution tested using a cartridge similar to a pregnancy test. A result is returned in 30 minutes, after which the sample and cartridge are disposed of. You will be informed of your child’s result via an email and/or text from the national Track & Trace service. If your child tests positive, you will also be contacted by the school and asked to complete a confirmatory PCR test at home.

All parents of students under 16 have already been contacted by email and asked to provide consent. If you have not done so, please contact the school to do so. Students over 16 are required to give consent themselves.

Riverside Year 6 Virtual Tour

The current pandemic has prevented us to opening our doors to prospective students and their parents this autumn. Please view the below video which we believe makes clear why Riverside School should be your first choice!

If your child is experiencing COVID symptoms or has just received a COVID test result (positive or negative) please complete the reporting form here

Specific information on the measures we have put in place can be found here

My child has COVID symptoms – what next?

If your child develops COVID symptoms, they should not be in school. If they develop symptoms at home, please keep them at home and inform the school using the form above.

If your child is already in school, they will be sent to the reception and isolated while a parent is asked to immediately collect them.

You should seek a test as soon as possible and AGAIN inform the school of the result immediately upon receipt using the form above.

If the test is negative, the student is able to return to school when well enough.

My child has COVID – what next?

If your child tests positive, they should self-isolate for 10 days from the test result and the rest of the household should self-isolate for 14 days.

You must inform the school of the result immediately upon receipt using the form above.

The school will then identify which other students and staff the child has been in close proximity with and send them home to isolate for 14 days. They should not get a test unless they develop symptoms – a negative result will not enable them to return to school earlier.

Why is my child being sent home to isolate?

In line with government guidance, if we believe that your child have been in contact with another student or staff member who has been confirmed to have COVID, your child will be sent home and asked to isolate for 14 days. The rest of your household does not need to isolate and you do not need to arrange a test for anyone in your household unless they develop symptoms.

In situations where multiple students in one bubble test positive for COVID, we may decide to send the bubble home to engage in remote learning.

8RIV Bubble Isolation Letter – 9th December 2020

Will my child miss out if self-isolating at home?

The school will make immediate remote learning provision for students who are asked to self-isolate at this time. If accessing online resources presents a problem, please inform the school and we will make adjustments such as providing paper-based resources. Remote learning work will mirror class work as closely as possible to prevent students falling behind their peers.

Riverside School is a mixed 11-18 free school that opened in September 2013. We are fully subscribed in Years 7, 8, 9, 10 and 11 and currently have 1200 students on roll, including our new sixth form. We will eventually grow to a full capacity of 2000 students.

Our success is a result of an absolute emphasis on learning, the brilliant parental support that we receive and our close-knit team of enthusiastic and incredibly talented staff. There is a real sense of passion and dynamism that students and staff bring to all that they do, making Riverside School a superb place to both learn and to work.

We serve our local community with the very highest standard of education to ensure ‘Excellence for All’. Riverside works in partnership with the Local Authority (London Borough of Barking and Dagenham) to meet the needs of a rapidly growing school population in the Thames View and Riverside areas in the southern part of the borough, on the north bank of the River Thames.
